Is Socialism Legitimized?
In the early 1950s, socialism is an umbrella term. It's a very crowded space underneath the umbrella because everybody claims to be a socialist. And as Salute Kaviraj says, it leads to this kind of confusion about what socialism itself means at that time. But given that socialism was so much in the air, why did it need to be legitimized? Is it because there is a continuation from British war controls and price controls and quantity controls? So there is a kind of reminiscence of things that happened after 1939.
