The 2013 Act and the Protections Against Defamation

Defamation never was an area of law that attracted legal aid. Litigens always had to pay for their own defence, unless the defendant was a newspaper. The 2013 act restrucks the balance in defamation in a way that was massively defendant friendly. It's avoided a whole bunch of technical libel cases that could have run and are no longer viable. And if you take all of those away, it gives less opportunity for a claimant to bring.
