The Book of Watchers

The apocalyptic genre was a new thing in second-temple Judaism, but it almost always presented itself as being an old thing. In antiquity, these works were almost always sued epigraphic, meaning that they were attributed to someone very ancient and authoritative in a Jewish context. Now, one Enoch starts with a peroration with end of the world type themes. And we're going to be quoting in this episode from the translation of Ethiopian Enoch by Charles which is somewhat out of date, but has a nice King Jamesy feel to the prose.
