The Ramban was a doctor who lived in Spain, Morocco and Egypt. He wrote the book as an answer to other philosophers of his time. The Ashkenazic Jews burned it when it came out because they referenced Aristotle. Today's readers could still be asking "how do I reconcile my faith with what the smartest people around think today?"
