The Relationship Between the Nile and the Sahara Desert

Judith Bumbry is a professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Her work has helped to prove that the buildings of the temples at Karnak near Luxor were completely dependent on the position of the mighty Nile. The river, which over millennia has wriggled and writhed, constantly creates new land on one bank as it consumes land on the other. She says: "The thing that constantly surprises me in my work is how quickly that environment is changing"
