Three Measures of Famine in the Soviet Union
Every one of these measures involves people rushing to the village, rushing to collective farm with authorization to take things away. In practice, this often just meant taking everything, just taking everything. The Black lists also meant that you were cut off from the rest of the Soviet economy. Number four is maybe the most diffuse, but it's incredibly important. It's the national interpretation of the famine.
