What's Going on in 1 Samuel 13 and 13?

Saul essentially throws away the Lord's dynastic blessing by usurping priestly duties. Jonathan obtains a victory over the Philistines, at least a partial fulfillment of 1 Samuel 9 and 16. Saul manages to fail spiritually once more via his rash bow even after Jonathan has success. One that nearly costs Jonathan his life.
