Mycenaeans seem to act as a central point of administration for the region. Many different regions with their own political control within Mycenaean Greece. It is unclear if there was a unified state, with an overreaching ruling centre. The Great Hall would have been lavishly decorated to impress his power onto visitors that would have been received in it. These palaces were mostly surrounded by fortifications and some had at least two stories high due to staircases found.
