The Role of Radiology in Hip Disease

Osteoarthritic degeneration in our community depends on how you define it. So if we were to define osteoarthritis radiographically that is upon the appearance of an x ray or looking at a person's CT scan or MRI scan. The incidents of osteoarthritic change within a hip joint is is quite common so if you look at people who age over 60 for instance. We would see radiographic changes and even up to a quarter of those people. But only a fraction of those people would be having symptomatic deficits or functionally important deterioration in their quality of life as a result of this arthritic degeneration.
