A lot of people over the centuries, including Martin Luther, thought Vashti was a model of horrible wifiness. And so there's a lot of people who have argued that Vashti should have done what her husband said here. But I would have to imagine that they are picturing a rather innocent request on the part of Xerxes. This isn't what this episode is going to be about.
