The Aztec Conquest of Mexico
Cortez built the settlement that would become mexico city on the ruins of tine chitlan, and as the city grew, the lake slowly van she swallowed up by urbanization. It became part of the empire of spain, and would remain so for exactly 300 years, until the country of mexico was created in 18 21. The remnants of the main temple of the aztecs, the templo mayor, can still be visited to day, but it's hard to even imagine the city of dreams once existed in the spot shared by the loud, trafficky streets of mexICO city.
