A lot of the popularization of like, sweet spot base training plans is around this idea that you can sub in a little bit more intensity and get almost as good results. "If you're going to race quite long races unbound, let's say, then being time crunched isn't going to work for you," he says. He finds if somebody can get out for like, a four or five hour ride once a week, that is actually sufficient volume to keep them progressing for quite a bit.
