The Hellenistic world is this enormously vibrant meeting of cultures starting from the time of Alexander the Great and running into the Roman period about five or six hundred years. And that's why I think it's relevant today, because one of the challenges theHellenistic world addresses is how do you deal with other peoples as neighbors? It gives birth to enormous technological progress to amazing art, to amazing literature and to this first partial world culture.
