War Is a Racket, by Smedley Butler
Smedley Butler claimed in War Is A Racket that a group of businessmen wanted to overthrow the Roosevelt administration and install a fascist regime. He said they asked him to lead a half million-man private army, but no one was ever prosecuted for their plot. In Killing Hope, author William Blum explores some 55 different cases of US military and CIA interventions since World War II which aimed to overthrow foreign governments. The coup of Guatemala in 1954 is a textbook example of the process.
