The Reliability of the Calendar
In non capitalist societies, the ways of marking time are just so different from what we take for granted to day. For instance, in mediaeval op the main demarcation of time for a community was the ringing of the bells in the church. But then there are also these other markers that you mention, the markers of the seasons and the sort of lived subjective feel of when the weather is starting to get cooler. So calendars existed in mediaeval europe, but they had less of an impact on the sort oflived, subjective experience of individuals.
