The Osage Nation and Its Royalties
By the early 1920s, the Osage nation were receiving incredibly lucrative revenues and royalties from crude oil sales. The wave of wealth that swept over the Osage reservation did not go unnoticed by those of European and other non-Native heritage. By 1923 it was obvious to all who bore witness that non-Oshage Oklahomans were slowly trying to encroach on the mineral rights of the indigenous people. Some people were more than willing to resort to violence to get their hands on the proverbial pot of gold.
