Expeditio S - The Legend of El Dorado

In 15 38, the spanish launched a tortuous expedition to go all the way up to the headwaters of the magdalena. 800 men set out, and only 200 made it to the end. They did not find el dorado, but they did run into the most advanced amerindians in the whole region. But decent gold deposits were eventually uncovered in the interior of what is now colum bia. By 17 hundred cartagena had maybe five thousand people. Caracus had six thousand. Bogota, about the same. And this was at the same time that lima, the capital of peru, was pushing forty thousand.
