Spanish Formosa, a Fortress in the North of Taiwan
Spanish Formosa, as this northern part of Taiwan was called, was treated as a kind of unwanted stepchild by the captain general based in the Philippines. In August 1641, the VOC decided to assemble a strike force and sail north, engage the Spanish, and remove them as a threat. From August 19 to the 26th, the Dutch went there. Aboriginal allies fighting on their side stormed the hill, breached the fort, and defeated the outnumbered Spanish defenders. And following this second battle, the Spanish were removed from Taiwan.
