The Politics of Warfare in the Maya
The rules of engagement were very similar to mediaeval warfare in japan, what i know of or about that period. Wars weren't started by regular people, they were a started by those who were in power and sometimes wanted more income or more influence over the area. The maya had books, thousands of books, but it's the tropics, so they're just not preserved. But i don't know if the landscape is, the landscape itself may have contributed to rules of engagement and warfare.
