Fishing the Rivers of Astorius

In northern spain there are one of the oldest populations of atlantic salmon in the world. Each season they have a competition called the alcampano to catch the first salvon of the year from each of the local rivers. The top restaurants will pay upwards of ten thousand pounds for the king of the river, that prized for salmon. Only decades ago, trains and boats full of salmon would leave tes parts, bound for cities and tables across europe. But not to day. Some blamed great fishing fleets at sea while others maligned weirs and dams or pollution. Many innastorius talked of crisis and even extinction of the entire local salmon population.
