Albert Pike and the Comanche Indians
Pike was not too impressed with some of the new Mexicans he met as people. By 1832 Pike and his companions had finally left Santa Fe for Fort Smith in New Mexico. On their journey back they stayed with some Comanche Indians and befriended them. The old women particularly were hideously ugly with high cheekbones long black hair brown smoked parchment like skin bleared eyes. by December 10th 1832 Pike had estimated that he had walked the last 650 miles of the 1400 mile journey that they had traveled since leaving Taos in September.
