The Limits of Modern Art

I think when people think of modern art, they probably think of like Rothko and kind of abstract expressionism. But we're also going to move out, say, the ready maids maybe, so like the du chomp, urinal kind of thing. So I think there are things that we can identify in modern art. There is a note of rejection of past forms. It's not clear to me that that rejection is necessarily very aggressive or it might just be exhausted. And then it also wants to be more subjective, not in the sense of like you make up what you will. But in the sense like it wants to engage you as a viewer as part of the artistic act
