The East Area Rapist
Unusual cars had been seen parked in the area. The day before they attacked, someone saw a grey station wagon go up and down and near by street five times. One man found tennis shoe imprints on his fence and an empty meat wrapper in his yard. Not one of these things was reported until after the attack already occurred. Police felt if they told the public what to watch out for, there would be citywide panic and it would hinder their chance of catching him. There were more incidents of suspicious people and vehicle sightings in this case than there had been before but not one was reported until the police came knocking after the attack.
