LZ: Can you talk about from an investigatorial and a prosecutorial sense why this isn't a perjury trap? Why? This is how every ordinary Joe Blow defendant interacts with the system in this way. LZ: In the words of trading places, why not both? And how it's always done. You do the investigation beforehand so that your agents are primed to recognize the truth versus a lie. They really don't care whether they get the truth or a lie because either advances the investigation.
