I had no experience whatever with consulting for companies, but they hired you. And i realized my brain was getting challenged as hard or harder, than it had been doing pure research. There was an a b testing platform where thousands of random ized, controlled trials were being run on a regular basis. Where in academics we were occasionally running thee small scale experiments, these were large scale experiments on real humans. The information getting collected had privacy and security implications. I was familiarizing myself with not just one problem of the future, but like ten problems of the future. So this was clearly a multi decade research agenda, and i was one of the first economists in the world to see it.
