The Ivory-Backed Woodpecker Is No Longer Around

The ivory-built woodpecker is believed to have gone extinct in the middle of the 20th century when one of the last official reported sightings was made in 1944. The US Fish and Wildlife Service are proposing removing the bird from the list of endangered species later this year. But they're supposed to make a decision later this year, which my guess is they'll probably put it make it officially extinct at that point, at least by their measures.
