There's a great deal of difference between recognizing that myth can be personally beneficial and personalizing myth. Personalizing the archetypal images of myth is similar to a butterfly collector pinning a butterfly in a shadow box. Like the pinned dead butterfly, we can no longer follow the myth or the meandering of our own life for that matter. On its unhurried, organic, meandering way leading us away from the comfortable environs of domesticity and deeper into not just the natural world, but our own, fathomless nature and the sublime discoveries it holds.
