Young people are being affected more by China's sluggish recovery. The government is trying to reorient the economy towards engineering intensive sectors, such as advanced technology or advanced manufacturing. But these jobs pay very little and they require people to work six days a week, 12 hours a day. There was one young graduate who we met in Chengdu whose best job paid 3,000 renminbi a month - below the average urban wage of just over 5,00 renminbi.
