Intro

This chapter reviews a meta-analysis on the use of prophylactic antibiotics for cirrhosis patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding, highlighting a shift in understanding regarding their effectiveness. It questions longstanding guidelines in light of recent studies showing no significant mortality benefits and addresses the implications of antibiotic resistance.
