The European Central Bankers' Response to the 2008 Great Financial Crisis

The crisis was not really in the radar of many central bankers in Europe. Bear Stearns and BNP Paribas also led ECB to provide a very sizable amount of liquidity all of a sudden, so there were already signs of that. Although we have a very controversial decision to say the least in July of 2008 when the ECB increased rates at that time. But with insight, of course, at least with insight, even perhaps more than that, the increase in the summer of 2008 was not justifiedat that time.
