Timothy Mitchell: Oil worker militancy took hold amongst this just remarkably transnational workforce, drawing workers in from across the region. How did that militancy shape? How was it in turn shaped by the ascendance of a diverse array of radical anti-colonial ideologies across the Middle East and Latin America? And how did each of these ideologies respond to the conditions and positions of Middle Eastern states in the grievances and aspirations of their people?
