effective altruism is the idea that people should try to make a difference in their own lives, rather than trying to change the world. You can donate an amount of money and save a life in africa for about four thousand dollars. Malaria kills over 400000 people annually, and its mostly children under five in sub sahara africa. And so if you give four thousand dollars to give, well, they will give it to a charity that will save some one's life.
