We Are Going Directly Down a Slope, Like to an Abyss
If the amazon ever does go up in smoke, there'd be a huge pulse of carbon into the atmosphere. It would be like the slope steepening down in front of us, propelling us forward even faster to more dangerous territory. We may be unlikely to pass these tipping points this century but passing one further steepens the slope and potentially accelerates our journey downwards.
