The Power of Abstractions in Hardware Design

I wanted to ask you what it's been like working on things like compilers and software tools instead of more kind of software focused projects. I'm now managing a hardware team and we're designing and building a lot of hardware, which gives me a new insight in how things work. It's also really interesting to see how the hardware world has a lot of really good ideas that haven't really percolated back to the software world completely yet either.
