Hannibal's Carthaginian Army
Hannibal would lead his Carthaginian army of tens of thousands north over the river Ebro and into forbidden lands. The route would require the Carthaginians to negotiate the Pyrenees mountains, the lands of the Gauls and the Alps mountains. Crossing the Alps would have been seemingly impossible with it being such a severe range of mountains. Significant losses affected the Carthaginian force as they initially crossed the PyreneES and arrived in the south of the modern day country of France. Not everybody survived the journey which was made in haste before the Romans could attack first.
