The Ridgeway: A High Ground Route
The Ridgeway is a high ground route that runs across the top of this Chawkupland. It's connected to settlements by routes that run north south, so down from the valley floor up and often those are ancient as well. What you're actually looking at is the ramparts of an Iron Age hillfort. After some uphill walking we're introduced to our next guest - Jennifer Wexler. She helps look after over 80 sites across all of English heritage.
