The Numbers Are Big, the Cost Is High
Britain and France have been enormously successful in reducing the numbers crossing that way. This was a big policy success but so often, as always, there are unintended consequences. The issue has moved down the coast over the channel itself - acrossing long thought to bear far too much jeopardy for any serious number of crossing attempts. Unlike lorries and cars, where we never really saw the arrivals that much, with boats and beaches, where you can point a camera, it has become a far more visible problem on newspaper front pages,.
