The Importance of Fairness in Health Care

The right decision is not given by maximizing the goodness of what we do, but it must also take account of the fairness of what weDo. A blind person tends to lead a less good life than a person who isn't blind. We may expect for most people that life will be less good without that ability. But I don't think that that should determine that we should give priority to the person who isn’t disabled in our life-saving resources. It would be grossly unfair to disadvantage somebody because she is already suffering from a disadvantage.
