The History of Citizenship in Athens
The Athenians were unusually strict about who could vote. One reason was because they were unusually large, says Paul Whitaker. You had to be legitimate in that sense of birth and secondly, you had to be thoroughly Athenian. The age of majority was 18. When you're 30 years old, you can put yourself forward for the jury courts. And thereafter, you're qualified to attend the local assembly or central national assembly.
