Noun Phrases - A Tool of Historical Linguistics
The noun phrase can be used as a tool of historical linguistics. Some adjectives get used so often with a noun that they may take over the nouns completely. The word in Latin for land, terra, means dry in most of its relative languages. And in Homer, the word for barley just means white in related languages.
