The Non-Violent Renouncer

The desire for food is the prime cause for all forms of Himsa. Food cannot be consumed without destroying another life form. The dietary restrictions extend even to water which should be drunk only when it is strained or has been boiled so as to remove small life forms. A critic of Jaina renunciation will probably not be satisfied. If you knowingly benefit from a morally dubious act, doesn't that by itself put you in a morally dubious situation?
