The Early Etruscan Settlements of Tarquinia
At its peak, Tarquinia covered a series of hills and plateaus overlooking the River Marta. It was ringed by a city wall encompassing about 130 hectares or 320 acres of urban space at the city's core. One settlement cluster consisted of about 20 identifiable structures stretching over 20 hectares of space. Its prominence probably had something to do with its religious functions.
