The Language of Teaching
The language of teaching in those days was slightly different. We hear nothing of raising attainment, personalisation or social media. There was general consensus on how to deal with the problem of student engagement and motivation. In Durham there is an ancient church dedicated to St. Cuthbert which boys would at times devote themselves to study,. stirred by the love of learning, as well as the fierce blows of the schoolmaster. Henry III banned the university that emerged there in 1265 to protect Oxford - so Cambridge University was born.
