The Kiss of Death for Morgan's Ideas
Engels' endorsement of Morgan proved the kiss of death for his ideas in polite bourgeois academia. He came from a Calvinist background and never openly stated that he was an atheist. But you see, what he showed was that the position of women changed because of private property. And I think it's very interesting, especially given that Morgan was no socialist, that the taints of his association with Engels means that his ideas were shunned by other anthropologists.
