Schiffel and the Blues

In the late 50s it was only 10 years since World War II happened. And there was nothing that 15 year old kids could do, particularly where I lived. There was no music because we couldn't afford it. Schiffel came along with a cheap acoustic guitar and you created a bass from a T-chest box with a pole and a string to play the bass. For the drums you would put thimbles on your right hand if you right handed. We had a washboard which is an instrument that your grandmother used to wash clothes with. And it would go, and so it was simple. It was cheap. All of a sudden we had something to do and we followed it
