The Hoothes and the Transition to a New Yemen
The hothes largely laid down their weapons to join the 20 11 arab spring uprising and attend the subsequent national dialogue conference. The u n sponsor dialogue was designed to set the country on a new and peaceful democratic track. Its 565 delegates, however, had been picked hurriedly and were less representative in practice than in the theory laid out on the dialogues web site. Even more crucially, the dialogue neglected to tackle the most difficult and pressing issue of how the new yemen would be shaped politically and geographically with the implications this would have for access to power and resources.
