Ted and Marcus go into a literal closet to talk about what just happened with Grandma out there. The rest of the family quickly joins them to discuss. Marcus is like, "I don't understand why you’re all so afraid to tell her the truth. Grandma doesn't like change!" Marcus isn’t happy and leaves.
The next morning, Ted tells Marcus that he just needs more time and asks him to go along with it for just a little longer. Marcus reluctantly takes off his engagement ring.
Grandma controls everything, including when Marcus and Ella are going to get married. She demands that they have a photoshoot to announce their engagement, and it doesn’t go well, considering that they aren’t really in love. But Ted gives them a pep talk, and things start looking up—until Grandma drags them to her fortune teller. It turns out they're perfect for each other, which is almost worse for Ted. Then, it’s revealed that they tricked the fortune teller, and that fortune was actually meant for Marcus and Ted. That makes Ted feel better.
Things are beginning to look up until someone recognizes Ella from her social media. They’re a big fan of Ella and her takes on bucking tradition and marriage, so they're shocked to see that Ella is getting married and take a picture of her.
Grandma gives Marcus her ring to give to Ella and then tells Ted that she wants him to take over the business.
The engagement announcement goes out in the local papers, so they all spend the day going around and getting all the newspapers.
Marcus opens up to Ted about how he’s actually been having fun because it’s given him time to plan the wedding in a way he actually wants to do it, not just the way Ted wants. Ted apologizes and promises not to railroad his opinion, saying that their marriage will be one of compromise.
They’re about to kiss, but Grandma interrupts them and asks Marcus to come explain the food because Ted’s mom made all of Marcus’s favorite dishes.
Grandma actually loves the food and tells them that she loves change—it was her husband who didn’t like change. She brings up the fact that all of her friends can’t find a newspaper anywhere. Just then, the power goes out. Ted runs outside to find a lantern, and Marcus follows him. They end up kissing in the rain as Grandma watches from inside, clearly surprised.
