The Importance of Specificity in Goal Setting

The more specific you are about what you want to achieve, the easier it is to plan actionable steps toward that goal. Being specific activates a part of our brain known as the reticular activating system or RAS for shorthand which then helps us focus our attention on the information relevant to our goal. When goals are measurable, it's easier to track progress and adjust strategies as needed. According to self-determination theory developed by Desi and Ryan, it's powerful, for dream outcomes, for making those big things happen rather than rewards.
