This is the evolution of Jim Davis's characters, John Arbuckle and Garfield. He established some Garfield behavior that we can have opinions about. But I think the like hungry, sleepy, scratches stuff is the boss. We have an adversarial relationship with our cats even when we love them. The comic went digital in 2010 or 2011. There's at least one referenced like 10 years earlier to him experimenting with a tablet. In an interview from 2018, he's like raving about how quickly they can make CGI Garfield for all the time.
