New granada lived under saint ander and the liberal constitution, while venezuela operated under a system of regional caudio governors. After years of un happy co existence, both were ready to throw up their hands and fight it out. The impetus for the crisis was pas's handling of the troop requests from belivar during the war of peruvian independence. For most venezuelans, bogota was an inaccessible myth way off in the mountains that may as well be on another planet.
